Introduction

Monoethanolamine, also known as 2 - aminoethanol or ethanolamine, is an important organic compound.

Molecular formula

C2H7NO

CAS NO.

141 - 43 - 5

Packing

210kg,Bulk

Physical Properties

Appearance It is a colorless to pale yellow viscous liquid at room temperature. It has a characteristic amine - like odor.
Melting Point 10.5 °C
Boiling Point 170.4 °C
Density 1.012 g/mL at 20 °C. It is denser than water.
Solubility It is highly soluble in water, ethanol, and chloroform. It is slightly soluble in ether. It can form hydrogen bonds with water molecules, which contributes to its good solubility in water.

Production Methods

From Ethylene Oxide and Ammonia: The main industrial production method of monoethanolamine is the reaction of ethylene oxide with ammonia. This reaction is carried out in the presence of a catalyst. The reaction produces a mixture of monoethanolamine, diethanolamine, and triethanolamine. The mixture can be separated by distillation and other methods to obtain pure monoethanolamine.

Applications

Gas Treatment

It is widely used in the gas processing industry to remove acidic gases such as carbon dioxide (CO2) and hydrogen sulfide (H2S) from natural gas and other gas streams. Monoethanolamine reacts with these acidic gases to form soluble salts, thereby purifying the gas.

Surfactant Production

It is used in the production of surfactants, which are widely used in detergents, emulsifiers, and wetting agents. The reaction of monoethanolamine with fatty acids or other organic compounds can produce surfactants with good surface - active properties.

Pharmaceutical Industry

It is used in the pharmaceutical industry as a raw material for the synthesis of some drugs and as a pH regulator and solvent in pharmaceutical formulations.

Cosmetic Industry

In the cosmetic industry, it is used as a pH adjuster, emulsifier, and preservative. It helps to maintain the stability and quality of cosmetic products.

Textile Industry

It is used in the textile industry for dyeing and finishing processes. It can improve the dye - uptake and color fastness of fabrics.
