Pharmacological Action

Terbinafine hydrochloride works by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol in the fungal cell membrane. It specifically targets an enzyme called squalene epoxidase, which disrupts the normal structure and function of the fungal cell membrane, leading to the death of the fungus. This mechanism of action makes it effective in treating a wide range of fungal infections.

Dosage and Administration

The cream is typically applied topically to the affected area once or twice daily.

Before application, the affected area should be cleaned and dried thoroughly. A thin layer of the cream is then evenly spread over the infected skin and gently rubbed in.

The duration of treatment depends on the type and severity of the infection. Generally, it may range from several weeks to several months. For example, tinea pedis may require 4 - 6 weeks of treatment, while tinea corporis may be treated for 2 - 4 weeks.
